SE CHW CoLab: What is a Doula?

We are so excited to announce our SE CHW CoLab this month, Wednesday, April 17  from 12 pm to 1 pm EST! This month's topic is What is a Doula?  in honor of Black Maternal Health Week, which is April 11-17, 2024. Our CHW Case Study Presenter will be Ms. Tanya Ambrose, a South Carolina Certified CHW, Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor, and Non-profit Business Founder.

Our CoLab Trainer will be Mrs. Karen Nolen, a full spectrum doula and founder of  Earth Body Soul Doula Care, LLC.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the barriers Black women face in accessing quality prenatal care, including financial constraints, lack of insurance, transportation issues, and healthcare provider biases.

  • Discuss the disproportionate rates of maternal mortality and morbidity.

  • Define what doulas are and their impact on the birthing community.

About CoLab

The goal is for Community Health Workers and CHW Allies from across the Southeast to support and learn together. Every month, a CHW will present a case study and an expert will offer training in a topic of great interest.

By attending and completing an evaluation, participants will receive 1 hour of CHW CEU every month.

AHEC hosts our CoLab, if you have not previously registered for a CoLab, please note you will have to create an account through AHEC to finalize your registration.
