Southeast CHW Co-Lab

This month's topic is Reaching Minority Communities!

Our CHW Case Study Presenter will be Courtney Thomas, a dedicated CHW working daily to support and motivate his community. He is the Linkage To Care Director at the GA Carmichael Family Health Center working in the state of Mississippi. Our CoLab Trainers will be Ms. Christine Currie, the Asian American & Pacific Islander Program Coordinator at the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs, and Ms. Ashley Owens, the African American Affairs Program Coordinator at the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs. Our objective this month is to be aware of the challenges in reaching minority communities, and how to effectively and appropriately achieve community engagement.

This month:

Across the SE, CHWs see and work with minority communities, but when we are in outreach or community events, it can be challenging to build trusting relationships.

This month we are bringing in the experts! We will have speakers who work with minority communities every day to share their experiences and tips on how to effectively reach our minority communities.

About CoLab

The goal is for Community Health Workers and CHW Allies from all across the Southeast to support and learn together. Every month, a CHW will present a case study and an expert will offer training in a topic of great interest. By attending and completing an evaluation, participants will receive 1 hour of CHW CEU every month.

Our CoLab is hosted by AHEC, if you haven’t registered for the CoLab yet, please note you will have to create an account through AHEC.

Please be sure to reach out to Nicole Moran, admin@scchwa.org, if you have any further questions.
